American Home

A Place To Call Home: Tradition, Style, And Memory In The New American House By Gil Schafer III (Author) & Eric Piasecki (Photographer), Published By Rizzoli, 2017.

For award-winning New York-based architect Gil Schafer, the most successful houses are the ones that celebrate the small moments of life, houses with timeless charm that are imbued with memory and anchored in a distinct sense of place. Essentially, Schafer believes a house is truly successful when the people who live there consider it home. It’s this belief, and Schafer’s rare ability to translate his clients’ deeply personal visions of how they want to live into a physical home that reflects those dreams, that has established him as one of the most sought-after, highly-regarded architects of our time.

In this big, beautiful new book, A Place To Call Home Schafer follows up his bestselling The Great American House, by exploring the ways in which place is fundamental to the idea of home, sharing his process, taking readers on a detailed tour of seven beautifully realized houses in a range of styles located around the country. Each in a unique place, and each with a character all its own. 250 lush, full color photographs of these seven houses and other never-before-seen projects, including exterior, interior, and landscape details, invite readers into Schafer’s world of comfortable classicism.

A Place To Call Home: Tradition, Style, And Memory In The New American House, Schafer shows how traditional and classical principles can blend with a sense of place to create homes in a range of styles, all with the satisfying tensions of fancy and simple, past and present. “I am, to be sure, a classical architect,” says Schafer. “As important as a commitment to classicism has been to me, no less meaningful is the desire to create architecture that is effectively responsive to a set of circumstances.” While Schafer is absolutely a classical architect, he is in fact a modern traditionalist, and A Place To Call Home showcases how he interprets traditional principles for a multiplicity of architectural styles within contemporary ways of living. Creating a cohesiveness that shortchanges neither history nor modernity.

About

In addition to his architectural practice, Schafer lectures around the country on the relevance and livability of traditional residential architecture today and is the author of two bestselling books, The Great American House and A Place To Call Home. He is a member of Architectural Digest’s AD100 and winner of Veranda’s “Art of Design Award.” Schafer serves on several non-profit boards and advisory councils, including the Yale School of Architecture’s Dean’s Council and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello. His projects have been widely published both here in the U. S. and abroad in: Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Veranda, Town & Country, Country Life, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, among many others.

Shamanic Oracle

Mystical Shaman Oracle Cards, by Alberto Villoldo (Author), Colette Baron-Reid (Author), Marcela Lobos (Contributor), Jena DellaGrottaglia (Illustrator) 2018. Deluxe-packaged oracle deck based on the wisdom and beauty of the shamanic world.

Legends say that before there was time, before there was language, there were the sacred symbols. The Medicine Wheel, the Curse, the Eagle, the Jaguar, and others spoke to us intimately. In their countless manifestations, they offered hope, expressed caution, illuminated opportunity, inspired creation, courted power, and shared knowledge. The sacred symbols belong to the realm of archetypes and the collective unconscious, the spiritual common ground shared by peoples modern and ancient.

Details Of  The Journey, The Medicine Wheel & The Sacrifice Mystical Shaman Oracle Cards.

Now, three master teachers and healers –Alberto Villoldo, Colette Baron-Reid, and Marcela Lobos, have brought their wisdom and talents together to offer a doorway into the realm of the sacred symbols with the Mystical Shaman Oracle. When you consult the oracle, you summon power and insight that can help you understand the present, heal the past, and influence the course of your future. We can become our own prophets and visionaries. We can converse directly with Spirit, dialogue with the forces of nature, speak with the great archetypes, the ancient gods, without intermediaries. No one needs to stand between the Creator and you, or between you and the great powers of nature.

The Owl Mystical Shaman Oracle Card.

Every card is a dynamic snapshot of a situation or a moment, and shows you how the moment can transform from one condition to another. The symbols present the forces and influences at play and the direction that the energy is moving toward. After you meditate on the image and the power that it holds, consult the text in the guidebook. Each card has three important messages: The Essence. The Invitation. The Medicine.

Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D. as a medical anthropologist has traveled to the source of India’s holy rivers in the Himalayas to rediscover the wisdom of the Sadhu, India’s ancient shamans. Villoldo directs The Four Winds where he teaches the practice of shamanic energy medicine. His books include: One Spirit Medicine; Shaman, Healer, Sage & Power Up Your Brain.
