Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Will Be In Apparent Retrograde Motion: February 17 ~ March 10 | June 18 ~ July 12 | October 14 ~ November 3 | 2020.

Mercury retrograde means the planet appears to be moving backward instead of following its usual forward trajectory. Retrograde is an optical illusion. Every planet in the solar system travels around the sun, but they each make the full journey at different speeds. Planets closer to the sun, like Mercury, have a shorter orbit than the ones farther away from the sun, like Earth. So, when Mercury laps Earth, it looks as if Mercury is traveling backward, according to the Farmers’ Almanac. To account for the difference between our perception and the reality, astronomers call this illusion apparent retrograde movement.

Mercury is the planet that governs communication and expression, this includes technology and transportation. For those who believe that Mercury influences certain aspects of our lives, when the planet appears to be moving backward, we shouldn’t count on any of these parts of our lives moving forward at a normal pace. A nice reminder to get organized and slow down. Beneficial Mercury Retrograde Practices: 1) Carry an Aquamarine stone in your pocket. 2) Write down a list of things you are grateful for. 3) Back up your computer. 4) Triple check appointment times + schedules. 5) Remain flexible. 6) Practice patience. May The Force Be With You. ☿◯⭐☪☾✩★

Honey Connoisseur

Honey Aroma And Tasting Wheel © The Honey Connoisseur

Every taste of honey is an opportunity to learn something about its floral source, region and even the beekeeper’s practices. Tasting and evaluating honey is a skill learned through formal sensory training along with experience. Join honey connoisseur and beekeeper, Carla Marina Marchese ~founder of The American Honey Tasting Society, to learn the methods of sensory analysis used by sommeliers to taste and evaluate honey like an expert March 7th, 2020 1-4 pm at the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Great Barrington. A new concept in the US that started in Italy 40 years ago, the art of honey tasting is as complex as skills used by a wine or olive oil sommelier. If you are looking to improve your knowledge of honey and/or develop tasting skills this workshop is for you. Appropriate for those who appreciate honey and beekeepers alike. Copies of Marchese’s honey bible book The Honey Connoisseur will be available for purchase and signing.

From honey experts C. Marina Marchese, founder of Red Bee Honey and Kim Flottum, editor of Bee Culture Magazine comes this comprehensive introduction to the origin, flavor, and culinary uses of more than 30 varietals of honey, from ubiquitous clover to tangy star thistle to rich, smoky buckwheat. The Honey Connoisseur teaches consumers everything they need to know about how to taste, select, and use a diverse selection of honey. After a brief explanation of how bees produce honey, the authors introduce the concept of terroir, the notion that soil, weather, and other natural phenomena can affect the taste of honey. As with wines, knowing the terroir of a honey varietal helps to inform an understanding of its flavor ~a term she coined honey sommelier.

The book goes on to give a thorough course in the origins of more than 30 different honeys as well as step-by-step instructions, how to taste honey, describe its flavor and determine what other flavors pair best with a particular honey. Also included are simple recipes such as dressings, marinades, and quick desserts and beverages. Beautifully illustrated and designed, The Honey Connoisseur is the perfect book for foodies, beekeepers and locavores alike.

Mantra Meditation

Meaningful Mantra For A New Year

A mantra is a sound, syllable or group of words which, when recited, are regarded as capable of producing spiritual transformation. A word common in the eastern world made up of two words: man meaning “mind,” and tra meaning “instrument.” So, a mantra is an instrument of the mind. In eastern religions, and the mystical traditions of Christianity, mediators use mantras to center themselves and bring greater unity between the mind, body and spirit.

In many respects, a New Year’s Resolution is a kind of mantra. But, like mantras, resolutions must be practiced daily with intention and integrated into your way of being. Find a positive mindset mantra that resonates for you. To each his/her own. Think personalization and empowerment. Then, meditate. In fact, if you make only one resolution this New Year’s, choose to meditate every day. Align yourself for a stellar year ahead. Meaningful mantras will manifest.

Traditional Fire Cider Recipe ~Excerpted From Fire Cider! 101 Zesty Recipes For Health-Boosting Remedies Made With Apple Cider Vinegar By Rosemary Gladstar, 2019.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup grated fresh horseradish root
  • ½ cup or more chopped onions
  • ¼ cup or more chopped garlic
  • ¼ cup or more grated ginger
  • Cayenne pepper, fresh (chop it up) or dried (flaked or ground), to taste
  • Apple cider vinegar (preferably raw and organic)
  • Honey

Directions

  1.  Place the herbs in a half-gallon mason jar and add enough vinegar to cover them by 3 to 4 inches. Seal the jar with a tight-fitting lid. Place the jar in a warm spot and let sit for 3 to 4 weeks. Shake the jar every day to help in the maceration process.
  2.  After 3 to 4 weeks, strain out the herbs, reserving the liquid. Warm the honey (so that it will mix in well) and add it to the vinegar, to taste. “To taste” means your fire cider should be hot, spicy, and sweet. The honey also helps cool the heat, moistens, and balances all the fiery ingredients.
  3.  Bottle, label, and enjoy! Fire cider will keep for several months unrefrigerated if stored in a cool pantry. Best to keep refrigerated.
  4.  A small shot glass daily serves as an excellent tonic. Or take fire cider by teaspoons throughout the day to help your immune system do battle.
